Monday #172

I’m just starting to recover from a week-long bout of a nasty cold, but unfortunately I didn’t get to stay off work and then go off to the mountains (or seaside) to recuperate. It’s probably just as well as I’m not sure I’d be very able to deal with an adventure right now.

“Is that a cave?”

“Hang on, just let me blow my nose and then I can look…”

Real life just can’t compare to Blyton’s imaginary world, can it?

Anyway, here’s what we’ll be writing about this week:

I don’t think we have any blogging news, but this week I have personal news. I have a new job! As of next month I will be a Library Assistant in the main branch of Dundee’s libraries. Me, working with all those books… I’ll be living the dream. (And naturally I will be seeing if I can work Blyton in there at every opportunity!)

I thought all the loony left councils withdrew them because of goliwogs and perceived racism towards Jo the Gypsy

Dundee must not have a ‘loony left council’ as I borrowed many Blytons from their libraries throughout my childhood.

I grew up with Milly-Molly-Mandy in the early 1960’s and look very much forward to your review. In Germany only a small part of the chapters got translated, however, the old German version by Franz Schneider Verlag has much prettier illustrations than the originals which I bought a few years ago to finally read the non-translated chapters/books as well.

Fiona, you were so kind to give me a link to the Famous Five reviews (always 3 books at a time) a few days ago, but my computer broke down yesterday and that’s why I lost it. Cannot find it in your World of Blyton website :(. Could you please help me? I was reading books 4 to 6.

Go to the top of any page of the blog and click the button marked book reviews. There’s a list there of every book we’ve reviewed. It should then be the second entry under “Famous Five by Fiona”

Fiona, I just added it to my bookmarks/favorites, so I cannot lose it again with the next computer break down. Thanks!
