Monday #773

The clocks went back yesterday so it got dark even earlier. At least it leant a spooky air to the halloween party we were at after school.

Most People in UK and Ireland don’t seem to realise that the clocks go forward in the spring to give us a longer evening from April to September. That is why they feel short-changed when the clocks return to Greenwich mean time in October. They conveniently forget that we have been an hour out of sync since the last weekend of March.

I don’t know if “most people” forget – we understand the clocks went forward in Spring – doesn’t make the dark afternoons any nicer come October though!

You certainly understand it but to hear some so called experts on the radio they don’t seem to grasp that simple fact. They argue for the clocks to be left alone why do we need to mess around with them why can’t we leave them as nature intended they plead. The brighter evenings make everyone feel so much better in winter, Daylight savings time is obsolete now because of modern technology. Their argument is that we should abolish daylight saving time by leaving the clocks on daylight saving time all year! completely oblivious to the fact that during BST the clocks are telling us it is one P.M. when the actual time is twelve noon p.m.

Clearly some people such as yourself do but most of them seem to be annoyed by people such as myself simply wanting back the hour they borrowed from me last March and act as though that BST is meridian time rather than an hour ahead of our actual body clocks.
