In December we got the first trailer for the new film which you can watch below:
And I wrote rather a lot explaining it, though it was under 3 minutes. Then a couple of weeks ago another one came out.
Hopefully I won’t write as much this time.
New plots revealed
The first trailer showed us the family moving to their new house and touched on the reasons for their move. It also gave us some brief hints at what is to come after the children discover the Magic Faraway Tree and the lands which arrive at the top.
This trailer naturally has to cover some of the same ground and therefore contains a few of the same clips, but the rest is new.
It elaborates on the idea that the parents are trying to get their children away from screens and technology. The dad says their childhood is slipping away.

So he appeals to the mum (who appears to have some sort of corporate job) that they “need this” and he shows her a folder with “dream binder” on the first page.
It makes me wonder if the “we’re poor now” from the first trailer isn’t true at all. And it makes me wonder what Dad knows about the Faraway Tree already. The painting in the binder looks like two people sitting at the base of a tree.

There’s also more of Jennifer Saunders as their grandma. She says “I will get them back to the city if it’s the last thing I do,” and I’m sure by that time none of the children will want to leave.

We also see Michael Palin and Lenny Henry as two of the heads of… well I’m not really sure what it is. Five wise heads on one body?

It is reminiscent of a previous Michael Palin character – the Three Headed Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Only Palin is on the other side. And there’s two extra heads.

It is Palin’s head who gives us one of the movie’s plot points – “You wish to travel across the lands to locate a spell to save your house from your evil grandma?”
Dame Washalot warns the children not to get left on a land if it is leaving the top of the tree so I’m sure that’s going to be relevant too.
Other glimpses
We see a little more of the Land of Goodies (where the punch has quite a kick to it).
And inside the giant cake in the Land of Birthdays.

Plus a look at this unnamed Land. The Land of Prisons? The Land of Forts?

Brodie and I are planning on going to see it soon. I don’t know how much of a review I will manage because I’ll have forgotten half of the details by the time I get home. Still, hopefully I’ll be able to write about my impressions at least and do a fuller review once it’s on a streaming platform.
