Monday #692

Having skipped quite a few Mondays, I’m now back. For now? There’s been a lot going on lately and I start a new job next week, so still a lot going on.

So the new job (even though it’s a temporary role for now) is good news. The not so good news is that I’ve just been diagnosed with coeliacs, which severely curtails my ability to eat cake and biscuits (not to mention pasta, pizza, bread and a whole lot of stuff that might surprise you). On the plus side, though, macaroons are naturally gluten free!

July round up

The Adventure Series has been re-released with new covers. I think any Blyton books being re-released is good news, as it means there is still a demand for her work from children. I may often hate the covers, but better that than them going quietly out of print like so many other titles.

I actually like these new covers, however. No, they’re not a patch on the original, but we are eighty years on and styles change. And OK, so looking closer I could definitely find things to complain about (incoming post alert…) but on the whole they’re attractive and eye-catching.

Thanks for those covers Fiona – there not the worst I have ever seen. Wonder if they still have the original illustrations?

Sorry to here about the coeliacs – hope the change of diet starts to make you feel better.

Good look with the new job too.

    Cheers

Thanks. I’m actually not symptomatic, but I live in hope that I’ll suddenly have a rush of energy or gain some sort of new powers which will imply that it is making a difference.

As far as I can see the new books aren’t illustrated, which is a shame. It seems unnecessarily cheap to commission new covers but not bother to include illustrations, but what do I know!

Does the new edition of the Adventure series have the wonderful illustrations by Stuart Tresilian?
